Offering an early 19th century pressed decorative wooden doorknob. Antique composite is fashioned from sawdust and animal blood and pressed into a decorative mold. The Antique Doorknob Collectors of America have assigned this style the identifier V-20500 and provide additional provenance on their catalog identification page. Interestingly, this is one of the first knobs produced under William Dibble's doorknob patents.
We have a matching lot of the quantity shown, part recovered in situ from a mansion being demolished in Elyria, Ohio built in 1880, demolished in 1960 and placed in storage until recently by the children of the last owners and the other half found in the Philadelphia area. We do also have a smaller quantity of the matching rosettes as shown in the V-20500 cut sheet.
Condition: All knobs are “furry”, a quality commonly seen in original pressed knobs with age. No restoration work has been completed on them, they are currently in as-is, as-found condition.
